I’ve been teaching ESL now for almost a year and I taught the class of my dreams this semester. In my classroom, I felt my bucket filling up instead of draining this semester. I had no idea when this semester began how amazing it was going to be! The students were humorous and lighthearted and they did some serious learning. I’m inspired by the sacrifices my students make to come here and being in the classroom has been my biggest highlight!
While teaching was so fulfilling, grad school was very hard. Teaching was such a sweet reminder to me of why I am trudging through finals. Teaching was a great reminder in these sleep deprived moments of how grateful I am to be here; it took a while for me to get the guts to apply to grad school and to realize we’d be okay with being broke for two years.
I have one semester left of grad school and I feel sentimental about all of the ups and downs. While all dreams don’t work out and this one has been a ton of work (what dream isn’t?), I’m really happy this one did.
